How To Play .asf Movies

I have SuSE 9.2 and mplayer. I use firefox for WEB browsing. Sometimes there are video clips, which I can only open on my kids XP machine.
Here is a step by step of what I do to overcome the problem. It is not an elegant way, but it certainly allows to watch the video clip.

1. First you must have a working mplayer.
2. Download the .asf file. Press play and it may offer you to play or download it.
3. Run my little perl script: Perl extract mms
4. The perl creates an executable file mp_asf.unx, run it.
5. The perl script is not complex. It "greps" out the mms lines and escapes problematic characters.
