[G]VIM to edit a file from remote using scp

  1. A nice tip how to edit a file from remote.

  2. Very useful to me, because I frequently need to edit files on one of my linux machines from remote.

  3. So far, till saw this option, I would do: ssh -C -X user@179.1... and then run [g]vim as I would from home. If the link is slow, I use vim otherwise gvim is my choice.

  4. From remote, however, this way is better, because it would try to connect and save the changes only when I hit: :w.

  5. Example for remote access is what I did at home from one linux machine to another: vi scp://pini@192.168.5.102///home/pini/PiniTmep/Music/yd.lst
