Control and set the vim title bar.

  1. This page shows how to control the title bar of vim. This feature is very nice to have, when one opens multiple files with similar directory and file name.
  2. In my case I open a few simulation logs and have the title bar name prefixed with a meaningful name.
  3. To install do the following:

  • Go to and download the .vim file.
  • Copy the file. I put it in ~/.vim.
  • Source it either manually or add a line to your .gvimrc:
    so ~/.vim/titleformatter.vim
  • start using it. Example:
    :SetVimTitleString web
